Admission of guilt after three days led to protests in the country's capital, where protesters called for the resignation of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran admitted the "mistake", in fact it could not have been otherwise, there was a video and several countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom and Israel claimed to have evidence of a projectile that shot down the Boeing 737.
On Twitter, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani "deeply regretted" the "disastrous mistake" and offered his condolences to the victims' families.
“The Armed Forces' internal investigation concluded that, unfortunately, the missiles fired due to human error were the cause of the terrible accident with the Ukrainian plane and caused the death of 176 innocent people. The investigations will continue to identify and bring to justice [the authors] this great tragedy and unforgivable error ”.
This is at least the official version. We only know what the media miss.
It appears that an NBC News correspondent, Heidi Przybyla, in some tweets reported that the plane was hit due to a missile exchange (crossfire) between Iran and the U.S., but those tweets have been deleted.
Another correspondent (this time from CNN) Susan Hennessey had mentioned the same crossfire.
Several news sites mention this.
