What seemed like science fiction a few years ago will become reality.
The American company “Ball & Technologies Corp” is developing the MOIRE satellite (Membrane Optic Imager Real-Time Exploitation, or “Membrane Optical Imager Real-Time Exploitation”), an all-seeing eye.
MOIRE will be able to provide real-time images and videos anywhere on Earth.
MOIRE will be placed in geostationary orbit and will cover an area of 100 square kilometers, with an optical resolution of at least three meters.
Observations will have to be made 24 hours a day, renewing the image every second, and transmitting data simultaneously to the control center on Earth.
Nano-hummingbird
The American company «Aeroviroment», specialized in manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), has developed the prototype of a nano-hummingbird. The NAV (nano air vehicle) was designed under a contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the American Department of Defense.
Since 2006, the company began working on the project, and the model has been modified: the initial version of a large insect has evolved into the current "mini-bird".
Today, thanks to a perfect biological imitation, this new generation "intelligence agent" has the same lines, colors and movements, both on land and in flight.
Its wings are 16 cm in diameter and it weighs 19 grams...
It is capable of reaching a speed of 18 km/hour in any direction and resisting a side wind of up to 2 meters per second, without losing stability.
For now, it can operate for eight minutes without needing to charge batteries.
A pilot operates it remotely, using remote control, watching the images captured by a video camera installed on the nano-hummingbird. They will certainly create other models of bird species.
